Balmaghie Dog Friendly Holidays near Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, was set up in August 2018 and is owned by dog owner Kathryn Taylor and her partner Martin. Kathryn, a former teacher, moved to Scotland in 2018 from Lincolnshire and recognised the lack of options for dog owners going on holiday other than leaving their pets in kennels.
“This is especially true for anyone with more than two dogs in the family,” she says. “It’s hard enough finding any holiday accommodation which will allow a dog to accompany their owners, but there was pretty much nowhere that would accept more than two dogs until we opened Balmaghie Dog Friendly Holidays.”
Kathryn also acquired an 18-acre private woodland with their property and secured it with six-foot-high fencing so that guests could enjoy exploring the woods with their dogs, safe in the knowledge that they didn't have to worry about them running off or being confronted by other dogs. In addition, the three comfortable holiday lodges are all fenced in with 6ft high deer fencing, again offering peace of mind to owners seeking a relaxing holiday in this stunning rural area.

Balmaghie Dog Friendly Holidays offers all year-round holiday accommodation at the same rates throughout the year. “I feel it’s unfair that many holiday lodges charge more during the summer months and school holidays, so it was decided to have flat-rate pricing regardless of when you come to visit.”
